Verfasst am: 31.01.2016 04:05 Titel: Golf Country subframe on a non-syncro Golf |
|
|
Hi,
Sorry, my Deutsch is really bad, but I've had this question for a long time...
Would a Golf Country subframe bolt up to a standard Mk2 Golf? Yes, I know it would physically bolt up, but would the rear differential clear the gas tank? I've noticed how much empty space there is above the rear differential of the Country, so I was wondering if a syncro chassis is even necessary on a Country...
Danke!

As far as i know, the normal gas-tank was raised and made smaller at syncro models because of the rear differential.
If you are planning to use a country subrame on a fwd mk2, you'll see that it should be possible to mount everything including the rear axle.
The only problem will be the length of the shock-absorbers, since the rear shock absorbers from fwd models are mounted lower and therefore longer than standard-syncro shocks.
by adding the 12cm from the subframe, it's you will need longer shocks _________________ lg... Joe |

Thanks Joe. If I were to do the conversion I would have access to all of the Country components, shocks and struts included.
The only question is whether the rear diff will clear the fwd Golf's gas tank...
I think a custom mount for the rear diff would probably need to be fabricated, but that shouldn't be too hard. I'm probably going to use a different rear diff as well:

looks like the locking one from a t4? is that right?
Regarding the gas-tank...
I honestly don't know, just thinking about it you might be able to fit the axle and the diff under the tank. It may be a problem to use the rear mount of the differential which is bolted to the chassis directly above to the rear axle. this might be where the fwd tank is. but with custom mountings it might be possible.
But then maybe there will be problems with the exhaust pipes and so on.
I too wondered if it might be possible to use a fwd gas-tank since the syncro one is a bit small. 10L might not sound that much, but 55L or 67L is a difference...
But other than the gas-tank and the lower boot-floor, I don't see the benefit from it, apart from it beeing a "first of a kind" conversion and the mechanical challenge.
I would find it much more intriguing, and also easier to buildt a jetta-country or even a jetta station wagon (variant) country. _________________ lg... Joe |

Yeah Joe! From the T4 and also possibly the Sharan syncro... might be fun to have a true locking rear diff in a Country. I've got most of the mounting figured out, it's nearly the same as a Haldex rear diff conversion on the syncro cars...

Agreed, not much point in building a Golf Country like this, unless you live in a country and state that makes importation of a vehicle like this nearly impossible! |

So you just want to buoldt a country, since it's hard to find one to buy.
Well then it's a good way of slightly improving things!
I wish you the best of luck for this project and please keep us informed.
A bigger petrol-tank and a locking rear diff is something i wold have desired for long. _________________ lg... Joe |

Thanks! It should be a fun car if it ever comes together. Also planned are a TDI swap and 02C trans with Peloquin differential... |

Yeah, a TDI swap... the perfect engine for the car just came out after it was discontinued.
i think the 110HP (AFN) would fit best. _________________ lg... Joe |

I've already got a nice low mileage 1Z/AHU sitting out in the garage... |

nice, i prefer the AFN engine with 81kw instead of 1Z with 66kw, because of the variable turbine geometry. _________________ lg... Joe |

Yeah, that would be nice... maybe someday.
This one will be mildly tuned with a long runner intake manifold to aid low RPM torque. |
